The Most Important Design Principle – How To Use It
Natalie Ediger, September 15, 2016· Digital Learning
That needs to be crossed out!
Clearly, design is important. That has always been the case. After all, it’s the first impression that counts, and 99% of the time I get it through my eyes. Good design attracts attention, appeals to me. Maybe it challenges me, or even provokes me.
Etymologically this makes sense: The word “design” – like so many expressions still used today – has its origins in Latin. “Designare” is a verb and directly translated means “to emphasize” or “to emphasize”. And hey, that’s what design is all about … isn’t it?
The problem contains the solution
In fact, “design” seems to be a word that often refers only to the visual component of an object. But this seems to change gradually.
Our technology is changing at an incredible rate. Twenty years ago, it was hard to imagine that by 2016 everyone in the West would be carrying a device with which they could access an infinite amount of information, reach anyone on the move, even create media and send it around the world. Today, virtual reality and automation are on the rise, and we can’t predict where all this will take us. The product that will affect our lives in 5 years is most likely not even invented.
Also our generation will have to deal with problems like ageing, pollution or traffic congestion. So how do you deal with all these big challenges? The solutions have to be designed and a lot of creativity is needed.
Design is not just a shell
In the past, design had more of a secondary role. You knew that a product had to look good to be noticed (and bought!). But that was it. That’s why designers were always involved at the end of the production process to give the product the final touch. These were mostly professionally trained designers who were exclusively responsible for the appearance of the product.
In order to create the solutions of tomorrow, however, it is very important to have a lot of creativity at the table. And not just at the end of a project, but when it is initiated. That’s why designers today are involved in the process from the very beginning, so they can bring their insights and ideas to the table.
Why every team must have a designer
So designers are always more involved from the beginning. It’s the same with Cleverclip. If we are faced with the problem of how to explain a situation as comprehensibly as possible, all those involved are brought on board right from the start. Everyone develops their own ideas on how to approach the problem skilfully. Everyone “designs” practically a possible solution: copywriter, draughtsman, motion designer, project manager … Everyone is encouraged to develop solutions in a solution-oriented way and with the target person in mind.
In this way, we find more innovative solutions to problems. The result is different, sometimes even surprising, if not only people of one profession get involved.
The designer of tomorrow sees the problems through a creative lens and thus helps to develop new products and new forms of business and to find innovative solutions, for example for environmental problems.
Creativity through design.
The design of the future
“Design” comes from the word “emphasize.” And this is exactly how we want to use design in our everyday work: To emphasize the core of a statement and make it understandable. Not just to make a product, a business process or the like look “beautiful”. We are convinced that this is the contemporary and promising use of design.
